Turkey Trophies

May 28th, 2010

Erik Holum and his Merriam's from South Dakota

With turkey season coming to a close around the country, now is the time to get those birds scored. As an officially licensed iPhone app of Safari Club International, Trophy Score can guide you through the scoring process and show you how your trophy measures up.  Make sure you have your Anchorpoint account set up so when you score that turkey, it’s added to the Trophy Room.

This is Erik Holum and his Merriam’s taken in South Dakota.  He has quite a resume of SCI animals and provided some great feedback. Be sure to check out his other trophies scored with Trophy Score.

Trophy Score Becomes Official iPhone Application Of Safari Club International

LELAND, NC – Trophy Score, an iPhone and iPod Touch application for scoring big game animals, is the first mobile application to be approved by Safari Club International.  Trophy Score is available worldwide in the iTunes App Store for $2.99 (US) and through the use of official SCI methods and diagrams, assists hunters through the process of scoring aoudad, cape buffalo, six subspecies of caribou, four subspecies of eland, kudu, pronghorn antelope and four subspecies of turkey.  Once scored, trophies are synchronized to the world’s only no-minimum record book at AnchorpointOutdoors.com.

“Not every hunter will get a world record, but their personal best may be pretty darn good,” says Trophy Score developer and Doubletough Ventures, Inc. President Chip Hunnicutt.  Trophy Score is the top-rated iPhone application for scoring big game using methods for scoring according to Boone and Crockett, Pope and Young and SCI. Once a method is selected, the hunter then chooses a species to score.  In addition to the species available through the SCI scoring method, hunters may also score typical and non-typical elk, whitetail and mule deer, four subspecies of bear, and three subspecies of moose.

“No app comes close to the detail we put into Trophy Score. The custom keypad with a dedicated 1/8 key for handling fractions, the ability to add a photo and syncing to the Anchorpoint Trophy Room are key differentiators,” said Hunnicutt.

Doubletough Ventures, Inc. has provided consulting services and solutions in online advertising, marketing, audio/video podcasting products and website design.  Trophy Score and Anchorpoint were developed by Doubletough Ventures to enhance the hunting experience. Reno Roundup

Reno….that magical sideshow on the way to Lake Tahoe and home to the annual convention of Safari Club International.  SCI offers a lot of reasons for attending their big event – and I mean BIG, somewhere in the vicinity of 20,000 were expected – but I was there to meet with the Records Committee and present the final version of Trophy Score.

Presenting an idea is one thing, which I did way back in the fall of 2008.  Some mockups, concepts, that sort of thing. Seeing a working product is another and like Boone and Crockett, SCI immediately recognized Trophy Score as a tool to reach the most coveted of hunters: the younger generation. Embracing the cutting edge technology of the leading mobile devices in the world, Apple iPhone and (introduced today) iPad, these organizations now have a direct line to kids who love to hunt and who want to know how their trophies measure up.

“But SCI, etc. only track best in class” you say? That’s where Anchorpoint comes in. Hunters, young and old alike, can sync their trophies to the Anchorpoint worldwide trophy room and share them with hunters around the world.  And through Trophy Score, if a hunter believes they have a world-class animal down, there are in-app links to finding official measurers in their area.

If you’ve never been to Reno for the SCI Convention, make plans for it next year.  It’s open to SCI members only so mark your calendars now for January 26-29, 2011.

For more information on Safari Club International, check out their Facebook page, follow them on Twitter and be sure to visit their official website.

The convention had plenty of outfitters, manufacturers and loads of outstanding taxidermy displays. Check out a few of them after the jump.
