Reno Roundup

January 27th, 2010

Reno….that magical sideshow on the way to Lake Tahoe and home to the annual convention of Safari Club International.  SCI offers a lot of reasons for attending their big event – and I mean BIG, somewhere in the vicinity of 20,000 were expected – but I was there to meet with the Records Committee and present the final version of Trophy Score.

Presenting an idea is one thing, which I did way back in the fall of 2008.  Some mockups, concepts, that sort of thing. Seeing a working product is another and like Boone and Crockett, SCI immediately recognized Trophy Score as a tool to reach the most coveted of hunters: the younger generation. Embracing the cutting edge technology of the leading mobile devices in the world, Apple iPhone and (introduced today) iPad, these organizations now have a direct line to kids who love to hunt and who want to know how their trophies measure up.

“But SCI, etc. only track best in class” you say? That’s where Anchorpoint comes in. Hunters, young and old alike, can sync their trophies to the Anchorpoint worldwide trophy room and share them with hunters around the world.  And through Trophy Score, if a hunter believes they have a world-class animal down, there are in-app links to finding official measurers in their area.

If you’ve never been to Reno for the SCI Convention, make plans for it next year.  It’s open to SCI members only so mark your calendars now for January 26-29, 2011.

For more information on Safari Club International, check out their Facebook page, follow them on Twitter and be sure to visit their official website.

The convention had plenty of outfitters, manufacturers and loads of outstanding taxidermy displays. Check out a few of them after the jump.
